Description

Courage a Grace: A Biography of Dame Mary Gilmore
by W.H. Wilde.

Melbourne University Press, Carlton, 1988.
First Edition paperback.

The first biography of feminist writer and poet Dame Mary Gilmore captures some of her contradictions. As a young follower of idealist William Lane, Gilmore helped establish his short- lived Utopia in Paraguay in the 1880s and later back in the Australia built a career as a journalist writing for the union organ Australian Worker, The Bulletin and the Communist Tribune. The subject of Dobell’s extraordinary portrait died a household name in 1962.

Condition: Slight curl to cover edges, tanned pages, small hole index pages, otherwise in very good condition.
