Description

Meanjin: A Literary Magazine
Edited by Clem Christesen.
Volume Six, Number Two, Winter 1947.

A marvellous issue, which includes essays by Netti Palmer on South American Literature, Marxist scholar Guido Baracchi on liberty and as presciently future ALP treasurer Jim Cairn’s blistering attack on his own party: ‘Wot, No Socialism?’

“Why are there so few real socialists in the Labour Party?” asks Cairns. Because, he says, “the Labour Party has adopted a policy of day to day objectives strictly within the capitalist status quo. In other words the Labour Party is the ‘left wing’ capitalist party.” – Jim Cairns, 1947

Condition: Minor markings to front and back cover and pages edges. Several pages are lightly creased. Otherwise in excellent condition for its age.
