Description

Ralph Rashleigh
by James Tucker.

Pacific books (imprint of Angus and Robertson), Sydney, 1962.

Unexpurgated version with introduction by Colin Roderick.
Reprint, paperback.

Originally published by the London publishers Jonathan Cape in 1929, this colonial novel of convict life was reputedly written by the convict James Tucker, transported for extortion, and based on his experiences in the penal colony between the 1820s and 1840s. There is some doubt about the authorship of the novel who, according to Roderick, died in 1866 at Liverpool Asylum.

Condition: Worn cover, creased spine, spot on edges pages, tanned, marks on odd pages, although spine tight and readable.
