A Most Unique Ruffian: The Trial of F.B. Deeming, Melbourne, 1892
by J.S. O’Sullivan

F.W. Cheshire, Melbourne, 1968.
First Edition hardback.

The crimes, trial and sensational reportage on Frederick Deeming, who stood trial in Melbourne for the murder of two wives and his children. The transcript of the trial and the insanity defence put forward by defence barrister and future Prime Minster, Alfred Deakin, and arguments on the differences between legal and medical insanity are fascinating. Deeming is still thought today by many to be a likely candidate for Jack the Ripper.

Condition: Former owner’s name and minor shelf wear. Protected in plastic sleave and in very good condition.
