The Dunciad Minor: An heroick poem
by A.D. Hope.
‘Profusely annotated by A.A. P and A.P’
Melbourne University Press, Carlton, 1970.
First Edition, hardback.
Hope channels Pope’s battle with the dunces for his savage take down of mid-century literary critics, the poem was originally written in 1950 as riposte to his friend’s AA Phillips scathing radio critique of Alexander Pope. Encouraged by Phillips to pen the satire, Phillip himself appearing as nitpicking critic in the footnotes, The Dunciad Minor reminds of us of a time when literary critics actually said what they thought.
Condition: Protected in a dust collecting plastic sleeve, easily removed, this copy has a small tear to top of dustjacket, but is otherwise in very good condition.
